emulating "mac os" on pc

i heard that it is possible to emulat mac os on pc but. i have no idea of woh it can be done and what version of mac os.
For emulating "mac os" on pc try this:
  • As of now, "emulating mac os on pc" is possible but the result is unusable. (because apple has not released a retail version of mac for pc, the version they sell will only run on intel hardware sold be apple ) ... ... first you have to get a developer image for Mac OS, then patch it according to your needs. Even after that you will be able to see the hdd as ~6GB....

For how do u put RAM in a mac? try this:
  • as the person who services my computers told me almost everyone gets into trouble with their computers because they try to be their own technicians. give apple a phone call on a toll free line. have all the necessary info at hand and ask them your questions. believe me you will be a lot better off. as this fellow tells me when i phone him. dont do anything. dont try and figure out the instructions. i know what the problem is. i will be right over. good luck bob
  • should work
if it doesn't then you can always send it back
    just unscrew it
if theres parts that you can add into your pc then it should be able to come apart no problem
or just take it to geek squad
  • Basically your best bet would be to follow these simple steps:

    1. Bring Mac to pawn shop
    2. Sell Mac for anything over $200
    3. Buy A real computer
    4. ????
    5. PROFIT
  • It would help greatly to know what kind of Mac you are using. Is it aluminum? Is it a laptop or a desktop? I am just going to assume that you have either an iMac or a MacBook Pro.
I am going to list a link to help you see pictures and such to do this on your own but the basic instructions are as follows:

iMac (intel based): Turn off and unplug your computer, Put your computer face down on a soft cloth, unscrew the bottom rectangle that is filled with holes, swing outwards the white tabs called "DIMM ejector clips", remove your old ram (you may need to tug a little bit), insert your ram, push it snugly into place and then return the ejector clips to their original position.

    Macbook Pro:
Turn off ,close and unplug your computer,
Remove the battery using tabs on the bottom,
unscrew the metal flap above the battery position,
touch the metal surface under where the battery was to discharge your body,
push the tabs holding the ram in to the left and right outward and then tilt upwards and pull out the ram, to install your ram you need to do the reverse...

Be sure all ram is in firmly and that the clips are holding it in place and that you return all the screws to their proper positions before starting up your computer.

Other computer configurations and tutorials with pictures are listed below.
  • More info on your mac plz. Or you can try looking on youtube for a vid. There should be one up that resembles what you are working with.
  • Well you take a chisel with a hammer....

But seriously if you want it done right and as safe as possible for your notebook go to the apple store.

My computer will not rewrite on my cd-rw cd!?

I tried to re-burn my cd-rw disc and my computer says that the disc cannot be modified. I'm on mac os x on a g4 powerbook. Please Help! Is their something that I am not doing right?
For My computer will not rewrite on my cd-rw cd!? try this:
  • It probably isn't drivers. Can you re-write on other discs or are you having this problem on all discs? If you can never re-write then you probably don't have an RW drive.

Its also possible that you have rewritten the disc so many times that there's no more room... every time you re-write you lose a little bit of space.
  • The drivers may be corrupted, reinstall them. From http://fixit.in
  • Did you check to see if your CD drive it compatible with CD-RW disks? Some drives can only write, not rewrite.
  • When you burn a CD or DVD and you want to add more data latter you can not close the session.

Your burning software should have a Tic Box that says something about Multisession. Make sure it is ticked.

If you close the session you can no longer burn data to that disk.

compute mac os question?

my ibook is 500MHz 384MB of RAM. i know its not a good ibook but i just want it for internet but can i run the mac os x tiger or panther on my ibook i know i could run the mac os 9 but i dont want that one
For compute mac os question? try this:
  • Panther you can use buit it will be a little slow. Tiger is out of the question.
Click on the Apple Web site and go to discussions and check to make sure.
All of the Operating Systems have a list of Minimum System Requirements. This will tell you for sure,
Most of the newer Mac OSX Operating Systems require at least 512 Meg of Ram Your a little low there.
It may be you would be better sticking with OS 9.2 to get the best performance from your computer.
  • tiger or even leopard should work
  • I think it should be able to run Tiger.

i installed mac os x leopard on my laptop and now it wont start?

the screen just says ”system config file '/com.apple.boot.plist' not found”. does anyone know the solution to my problem?
For i installed mac os x leopard on my laptop and now it wont start? try this:
  • Make sure it is an apple computer.
OS-X only works on apple systems.
If it IS an apple computer check this site.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307005
  • GET RID OF MAC OS! I have had loads of trouble in the past with Mac operating systems. I would reinstall it with Windows. Or, if you don't like Windows go with Linux

Is there a completely free OS X hard drive cleaner?

I want to clean up the hard drive for my mac, does anyone know of a completely free program?
i mean, just erase free space, to clear those stupid files that take up needed space
For Is there a completely free OS X hard drive cleaner? try this:
  • Yes there are. The one I use is OnyX . It erases a lot of unneeded files, logs, and cache on your hard drive. It also can check your hard drive status and repair permissions, as well as a few other things.

"It allows you to verify the Startup Disk and the structure of its System files, to run misc tasks of system maintenance, to configure the hidden parameters of the Finder, Dock and of some of Apple's own applications, to delete caches, to remove a certain number of files and folders that may become cumbersome and more."

You can download it for free here: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/11582/onyx

That version is for OS 10.5, but they also have the versions for OS X down to 10.2 on that same page.
  • Here try this hope it works but I don't know if it is compatible with mac.
  • do you mean format or erase it completely, if so then just use disk utility.
  • Nope, sorry.

There are some pretty cheap ones, however.
  • dont you know you get what you pay for

can i run both OS (vista or xp and Leopard) on a mac?

For can i run both OS (vista or xp and Leopard) on a mac? try this:
  • yes, their is an app you can download (i forgot what it is called) but yes you can download the app load windows and fully use windows and mac
  • On any Mac with an Intel processor. Use Parallels or Fusion or Boot Camp in OS 10.5.
  • Yes you can. In fact, I am currently running four OS's on my macbook (Leopard, Suse Linux, XP & Vista) . For that, you need a virtual machine software like VMWare Fusion or Parallels. You can simply install Windows using the VMWare and run Windows just like an additional software on a mac (in a window or full screen). VMWare & Parallels may cost around 79$

The other free way is to install windows directly through the bootcamp feature in leopard. The only disadvantage is that you have to restart your computer every time you want to switch between two operating systems, which is kind of a hassle. Personally, I would highlighly recommend VMWare Fusion for its performace over Parallels and for the fact that you don't have to restart the Mac to run it.
  • Yes. You need Mac OS X Leopard and a copy of Windows. It is VERY easy.

Mac People: Please help with my icons!!!?

I have an imac os x and i cant remember how i made the icons on my desktop so big, now i want them small again. If you know, please include the steps to change them back. Thanks!!!
For Mac People: Please help with my icons!!!? try this:
  • I go with the "control click" (pretty much the same function as right click on a pc) and choose "view options"
  • Right click (Or control click) on your desktop and click "Show view options". Then the scroller at the top sets size.

    That should be it.

    Hope that helps!
  • Sam, Xaeno, and Janet are all right. I don't know who gave Sam the thumbs down but he is right.
  • go to the Apple on the top left [click]
    go to preferences [click]
    go to dock [click]
slide the "Dock Size" to your liking
slide the "Magnification" to you liking
[click] top left corner (to clear preference screen)
    WHAA - LAHH IT`S DONE!
    PEACE!
    SEA~
  • In the dock, click the system preferences icon. Inside there click display icon and adjust the screen resolution to higher numbers.
  • The only way I know to change the size of the DOC bar, is to go to preferences click the doc icon and make the doc size small and reduce the maginfication towards min. You can choose doc placement @ the bottom, left, or right. Good luck
  • "right" click on desktop or on a group of icons. Change the view options. There should be an icon size preference.

I just took a screenshot with my mac OS X?

now how do i find it /where and where do i edit aka resize it or edit
For I just took a screenshot with my mac OS X? try this:
  • It's "Picture 1.pdf" on the desktop. You can double-click to open it with the Preview app, then pull down the File menu and use Export to save it as a JPEG or other kind of picture. From there you can use iPhoto or another photo editor to manipulate it.
  • it should be on your desktop and if you have photoshop then open it there and edit it

if it is on your desktop, it should be called "Picture 1"

if it isnt on ur desktop, then go to the spotlight and look up "picture 1"

    hope I helped

what makes a mac cool?

the fact they can run os x and windows or the hardware? But a mac and a pc have the same basic hardware and you can run os x on a pc if you hack it. I preferer PCs.
PLUS macs are more expensive
all the the virus protective and user compatability is in the software
For what makes a mac cool? try this:
  • smaller, more compact. PCs are ugly. Macs are reliable. They have apple care and apple stores that you can bring the computer to.
  • Macs don't get viruses like how a PC does, also Macs are graphic oriented for people into art, graphic design, music, movie making, editing, writing music and it has better visual quality. Since Macs are made specifically for people in these professions, they are not the most popular computer you would find in every home across the US.. thats what makes it cool.
  • size in comparison to memory capacity in comparison to the thinkpad(of corse i am talking about the macbook air)
  • Mac is known for it's advertising. It's what gets them where they are. Otherwise, what they offer is just the same as the rest, besides the fact that Pc's are more Universal in hardware and software.

If I were too buy one, it would be just for the looks of it. The functionality is nothing you can't get for free with Linux, or Windows.
  • Overall, they are more reliable. In addition, there is more helpful support available because everything is made by the same company. Vendor specific problems are virtually eliminated, and software made for Mac typically runs more efficiently than software for the PC- except for games, which most PC fanboys criticize the Mac for right off the bat.
  • Marketing. Apple has marketed their products to try and seem stylish. So people think they are cool because they have a mac.
I've already got my flame retardant suit on for people to get cranky at me for that about.
Some of their design features are innovative but in the end its all because people are trying to buy into an image.
  • Macs are like puppies. They bounce and make cute noises :DDDD
  • I reckon it's the ability to run windows and mac OS's... Oh, and mac's apparently* don't get any viruses.

I have an old imac with mac os x. I want to check the speed/quality of the internet I am using. How would I go about that on the computer?

Why cant PC games run on Linux or a Mac?

Yeah. I was just wondering Do games companies make games specifically for Windows OS? Would it be possible for Linux or Mac borrow / use some of the technology from Microsoft to integrate into their OS. Why isn’t this technology available to other companies if it has such a negative and dominating the gaming market ? Thanks, all view are very much so welcomed
For Why cant PC games run on Linux or a Mac? try this:
  • Its the type of coding, Each uses a different type of code so they don't work with one another. That the same reason viruses attack only windows and not other os's mainly.

It wouldn't matter to the companies to make games for the rest of the 4 - 5% using other OS's. Even hardware manufactures are specific for the O.S, because drivers aren't avilable in other os's.
An for them to recode the entire game to the new code would be a huge waste of money for them.

Basically you have tons of reasons, but certain companies do. Warcraft 3 is for Mac and PC.
An Doom recently was ported to linux
  • Most of the PC games r made for window OS like xp,vista....
this is b'coz of majority of usage....Further linux is very simple to use...& not compitable for most of 3D games....
  • Linux has a lot of the tech available. The two main problems are:
    1) devs like to use Microsoft's DirectX
    2) Both Nvidia and ATI refuse to make fully functional drivers in linux. They may for mac, but I'm not sure.

In reality it's not as bad as all that, though, and it's getting better. The open-source ATI and nvidia drivers can do most basic functions for their cards, and open-source graphics libraries have gotten so good that devs don't need directX to make good games. In fact, the ps3 is leaving directX in the dirt.

A lot of very good games have been ported to linux. Quake 3 and 4 have been linux-ported for a long time. And within the last 2 or 3 years, commercial developers have actually been SELLING linux titles, something practically unheard of till now.

here is THE place to browse the BEST linux games, as well as porting utilities. There are very good, 3-d accerated games there, and ports for such new games as Medal of Honor Allied Assault. Most are free, and the commercial titles are listed too.

    http://happypenguin.org/list?start=11&sort=category

Check it out. A lot of people use linux, including the best hacker/gamers, and companies are starting to notice how a lot of us don't like Microsoft. The Windows monopoly has been eroded away significantly, directX no longer dominates graphics libraries. The main thing now is to get better drivers for ATI and Nvidia hardware, either open-source or to pressure them to develop them.

If you have an x86 processor, you can emulate windows with Wine. If you google "wine windows emulator" you'll find the Wine repo. There are a lot of people who successfully play World of Warcraft in linux, and detailed how-to's, though you'll need a fast PC. Since it's emulation, it's not ideal, that's why you need a powerful pc. x86 means an intel cpu.

-edit--> the port of Doom is ancient history, many years ago. check the link. Try legends, or Wolfenstein: ET.

What OS should I get??

I ws wondering should I get Windows XP with SP2, Linux(with a windows emulator), Vista (once SP1 comes out), or Mac OS X Leopard. Im going to use it for gaming, coding, video editing, and sound editing.
For What OS should I get?? try this:
  • Gaming: Windows XP (nothing else really has enough games available for it, and Vista...well, avoid it like the AIDS it is)
Everything else: OS X (though, personally, I'm partial to Adobe Audition for sound editing, which is sadly Windows-only)
  • Windows XP service pack 2.
The most user-friendly OS you can buy.
  • windows Xp SP2 or windows Vista
    xp is better than Vista
  • Go for WIndows XP servicepack 2.

Its stable and have no issues.

I am using it for last few years for gaming, coding, graphic designing, video and sound editing and a lot more..

What do you like and dislike about a Mac OS and why???

Making a choice between an operating system is pretty hard. I never considered Mac OS to be my main operating system because:
For What do you like and dislike about a Mac OS and why??? try this:
  • Making a choice between an operating system is pretty hard. I never considered Mac OS to be my main operating system because: ... 1. It only runs on Apple computers. These days, when Windows and Linux both work on Macs, I would consider Mac OS only running on Apples a somewhat shady business practice. ... 2. The choice of software for Mac OS is rather small. There are countless programs like download managers and instant messengers for Windows and Linux, but the choices are limited to two or three on Mac OS. ... 3. Due to the much smaller market share that Mac OS has, Mac OS software is somewhat overpriced ... 4. Lower end Apple computers are not powerful enough to keep up with all the eyecandy that Mac OS X has. ... 5. Getting to do complex things and changing settings is often awkward and requires tons of clicking around. It makes the OS unappealing for power users. ... ... What I do like however is that it is more or less idiot proof. Even a complete beginner can get most things working. A further advantage for that particular user group is that the chances of catching a worm or virus are minimal on Mac OS compared to Windows XP

    • Geek Squad at Best Buy

    Mac OS or Windows?

gimme a break.... can you tell me how much time it takes to copy a file in vista...
For Mac OS or Windows? try this:
    • Windows Vista definetly, Windows Vista is much better than Mac OS X.
    • Definetly Windows. It may crash a lot, but that may be because you have not had the time to clean up your computer and run some maintainance on it. I have two computers, one is new, the other one is old, REALLY old, 1997 in fact, but I have maintained it a bunch and it runs just as well as my new one! Mac OS, don't get me started. Even if you do your best to maintain it, it will freeze. And other times, you just don't know what will happen. Will it freeze, or won't it? And the hardware on it just sucks entirely. My school uses Mac, and in the past 3 months there have been 2 hard drive crashes, one motherboard melted (still don't know how it happened) and some of the computers are just unstable entirely! They've reimaged all of them and still, same trouble. STICK WITH YOUR PC!
    • Windows and mac cost WAY to much. Linux is a very stable operating system, and everything is FREE. If you get the right version, it is also very easy to use. I recommend Ubuntu. Any windows user should be able to catch on really quick to Ubuntu.
    • Each of them has it's advantages and disadvantages.
    • I prefer windows. Mac OS... too much stuff. Gets annoying

    Mac OS on XP

Is there a way that I can install a program like bootcamp on my XP computer and then install the MAC OS too so that i can switch and use whichever one i want to?
For Mac OS on XP try this:
    • Simaple answer is yes ... ... first off go to http://www.osx86project.org/ ... ... send could be going to a bittorrent site such as the following ... ... isohunt.com ... mininova.org ... newnova.org ... ... and soo on and download a patched OSX X86 DVD ... ... ether use vmware or do a out of the box install on your pc ... ... I for one em a big fan of the hackatosh aka mac on pC
    • look here ... http://www.osx86project.org/
    • Go to http://www.osx86project.org/ to find out how
    • I don't know if there's an app like BootCamp for Windows, but if you can somehow obtain an x86 version of OS X, it is possible to dual boot between it and XP.

Mac OS X on a PC?

Is it possible to run a Mac OS X on a PC? If "yes" HOW? If "not" WHY? Because Windows is running on Macs.
For Mac OS X on a PC? try this:
    • Yes, you can. This website has a program that will allow you to do this via this link ... ... http://pearpc.sourceforge.net/about.html ... ... Good instructions on how to do it are listed here ... ... http://www.windowsdevcenter.com/pub/a/windows/2005/01/18/PearPC.html ... ... If that won't work, you could try to use a second hard drive and install it there.
    • Yes, you can put windows on a mac but i don't see why you would want to. Step 1: go to http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=MA453Z/A buy mac osx tiger or a diffrent one. Step 2: Get the cd the put it in your computer the installation should start then follow th on screen instructions. ... What is better a mac or a pc (Windows or Apple)?

Yes, what type of computer is better. I know Vista is the latest version of windows, and Apple just launched Leopard OS X.
For What is better a mac or a pc (Windows or Apple)? try this:
    • With Apple you have OS capabilities based upon hardware. Out of the box, Apple offers some excellent software included in the bundle, but any special additional software requires purchase of a legit copy of the software you want. An upgrade of the Mac OS might include all new hardware as a requirement, and then you're faced with upgrade of your software library. Drivers for the external hardware on a Mac can present a problem.

For add-ons and software choices, pc, at the XP level.
    • I used Windows for 10 years, and recently switched to Mac OS X with Leopard. I would highly recommend a Mac. It is wonderful for watching movies and playing music, and also, it is highly advisable for designing and also programming as all compilers for almost every language is already installed on Mac.

So, ultimately Mac is the best choice. Leopard is a wonderful operating system and way better than Vista.
    • ive nvr used a mac cept in like 1st grade lol but from what ive heard from friends that have them they LOVE them but they better because they cost soooo much more
    • I have had both Mac's and PCs.

In the beginning, I was all for Macs, but my opinion changed.

Now, it's PC's all the way.

Macs are good for people who are afraid of computers and have no experience working with them because the user interface is easier to interact with than Windows. But, I did notice that Mac's system software became less user friendly over the years, so today, I am not sure if Mac's are that much easier to use than PC's.

Macs are also good if you plan on getting into something such as Graphic Arts.

However, Mac's are more expensive. The software is more expensive and the software you have to choose from is far more limited than for a PC's.

I have come to love PC's and wouldn't ever go back to a Mac.
    • pc vista
    • I've used both and and i prefer Apple. It is faster, not only when turning on the computer or running applications but also on the internet. They also have a very sensitive airports so you can connect to the internet in more places and pick up a signal. Also they come with so many programs that help you be organized. You can also run Windows on an Apple computer if you like. Another good thing about Apples is that they receive hardly any viruses. I've had my Apple laptop for 2 years and havent had a single virus or problem with it.
    • windows xp and mac osx
    • It really depends what you prefer. Personally i prefer Windows Vista. But apple is probably better if all you are going to do is play movies and songs on it. Windows is still good for this too though. It really depends on what you need to use it for

      i hope this helped :) :) :)
    • It completely depends on what you want to do with your computer. If you're going to use it simply for personal use, then a Mac might be more your style. Especially if you want to do video or graphics editing.

However, if you are using it for office work and will need to transfer files from your computer to others and download files from other computers, you should definitely get a PC. Also, if you want a gaming computer, DEFINITELY get a PC.
    • Sorry but it's Apple hands down
    • PC with Windows XP or Vista Ultimate is better.

If mac users are so proud of macs, how come I always see windows installed on them??

I have nothing against macs, but people are always telling other people to get macs, etc, because of how great a mac is. The OS is so good and easy to learn etc. Then next thing you know, they also installed a copy of windows on their mac (whether they really use it or not, i don't really know)
For If mac users are so proud of macs, how come I always see windows installed on them?? try this:
    • Sometimes a *necessary* piece of software is written *only* for Windows. (The developer of the software hasn't been considerate, or doesn't have the skills, or the time, to develop a version that runs on the Mac.) I have a few programs like that.

Take also, my case. I do websites. Not everyone in the world uses a Mac. I can't develop websites just for Mac users. I have to test on Windows to make sure they look good there, too. The alternative to having two PCs (like, at $2000 for a Windows PC?) is to have a copy of Windows running on the Mac (at like a tenth the price, all told?)

Finally, I'm just now migrating...I traded in my PC for a Mac, and am getting rid of my Microsoft "addiction" (that needle in my arm...), but I'm not an IMMEDIATE expert on MacOSX (like, I'm not omnicient, ya know! and I can't just quit "cold turkey") So I need my copy of Windows to lean on for just a little "hit" now and then (snort, snort).
    • maybe windows is more popular than mac os so everything runs on windows but not on macs, so, maybe they do that just if they come across something made only for windows then even be able too use it
    • the reason been you can do much more with a pc than you can with a MAC
    • Some software is only designed for PCs because there is a bigger market of PC users. The only way you can use those programs in a Mac is by running Windows on it. I have a Mac, and I would much rather have those programs available for Mac OS, but companies are too lazy.
    • Hi, well Mac users always need programs and games for running which only work on Windows. I noticed this as well, my father has a macbook but he hasn't installed windows on it but everyone else I know with a mac has. Also haven't u noticed that Vista aero interface is like a million times better than Leopard's plastic metal aqua interface, Mac users no doubt like it.

Myself I use Linux and I think as well that Linux is better than both Windows and Mac OS X.
    • I have often wondered this. One thing is for sure is Linux is superior to both.
    • The only people I know who have Windows installed on their Macs (and I know a lot of them) have it there so they can test webpages they write in Internet Explorer. They do all their actual work in native OS X applications.

    Mac OSX???

How does Vista look anything like OS X?
I'm on a MAC at my school right now and I see almost now similarities. And Vista seems to be a bit faster, too. The mac I'm on is a beast (core 2 duo 2.2 GHz 4gb RAM) and it's slower than my home computer running Vista (1.9GHz dual-core 2 GB slower RAM)
    For Mac OSX??? try this:
    • Mac OS X and Vista both are a bear (they suck up memory like a sponge). it may be that more services, etc are being started on the Mac (not that i'm a Mac fan, coz i'm not...) but generally it's due to the number of applications running, services running, etc not the "speed" of the OS. but the speed of the HDD could come into play...
    • Hi, come on man we all know those people who say OS X looks better than Vista r all jealous of its interface. I almost puked when I saw Leopard. They r both equally fast and Vista looks a thousand or should I say a million times better then that plastic metal aqua look. Plus I am not a big fan of dock bars either.

What time is it where u r cause I noticed u said u were at school, here its like late night where I am.
    • I'm running a wireless network; and one of my user is running Mac OS X.

I only noticed that: Vista requires weekly cleanup to make it run smoothly, but not on Mac OS X ...
    • hell no

Accidentally deleted my Safari bookmarks - Mac help please!?

Late last night I emptied my cache and apparently deleted the wrong Safari files as I now have no bookmarks in Safari. Unfortunately, I had not saved the files to disk. I had tons of brilliant links saved and must have just been in the wrong folder when I deleted the files. Drat!
FYI, I did a "Secure Empty Trash" immediately afterwards and I'm running OS X 10.3.9 on an iMac G5. Is there any way to recover the bookmarks, or am I just plain out of luck?
For Accidentally deleted my Safari bookmarks - Mac help please!? try this:
    • On the new OS X you could go go back using Time Machine

      http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/timemachine.html

      On 10.3 you can't - sorry!

Which Linux Distro should I get?

First off, I'm a linux newbie. I'm just trying to experiment and experience a different OS. It has to be compatible with my Macbook (Intel Mac). And I'm looking for a sleek, polished look, preferably with that crazy "3D Cube" desktop feature that I've seen on Youtube videos! Any help appreciated!
For Which Linux Distro should I get? try this:
    • My recommendations, as I have seen nwebies find it easy, from easiest to the harder ones..

      Mint Linux
      PC Linux OS
      Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu/Fluxbuntu
      Mandriva
      OpenSuSE
      Sabayon
      Debian
      Fedora
      Slackware
      Gentoo

If you are seriously considering using Linux for long, I suggest you look at one of Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora or Slackware. All are original in their ideas, and all have a good respect among seasoned Linux users.
    • you can't go wrong with anything debian-based.

Some of my personal favorites are:
      Linux MInt
      Ubuntu
Debian (I don't recommend it for beginners)
Damn Small Linux (for really slow computers)
Puppy Linux (Also for somewhat old computers)
    • All of them.

Well, maybe not all of them. But anyone who says "You should use this" or "You shouldn't use that" is denying you the very thing Linux embodies: choice.

So I'm going to recommend several that I have tried, and let you see for yourself whether you like them or not.

    Help......fun......online!?

What are some fun games that you can download on to your computer. My system: Mac Os X P.S. that means that it has to have a mac version or it is a MAC version. Im a girl, and I love games like sims and other life simulation games It has to be something I can find by going to the internet. Oh and it does not matter the rating I love all games I played Grand theft auto at the age of 9!
    For Help......fun......online!? try this:
    • if you want free online multiplayer games go to www.mmosite.com.
      www.onrpg.com

i dont know any single player downloadable games since youre using a mac, sorry
    • Emuparadise.org

but you didn't hear this from me... lol
    • I agree that World of Warcraft is the best game you can get for a Mac. That's all I play! Server: Dunemaul, char: Tamin!

      Come join the fun :-)

Though I guess it's not an online game in the sense that it's not embedded into a browser. If you're looking for something you can play while at work, then I really can't help out in that department :-(
    • play world of warcraft its fun. and if you do get into it, my server is muradin if you wish to hang with meh.

will an 80GB 5th Generation ipod work with the latest version of itunes, runnning on mac os x leopard (10.5)?

I'm considering downgrading from a 160GB classic as i don't like the fact that the classic has a much lower volume limit than the previous models.
the volume limit set to its highest point still doesnt compare with the volume from the previous models i've heard. changing the volume of the songs in itunes simply means that the maximum volume is reached halfway up the bar instead, which is the same loudness as before!
so you believe it is a faulty product?

    • Yes.
    • Of course it will, except I don't think the volume is lower... You probably already know all this, but have you checked the volume limit under settings on you're iPod? It usually comes with the volume slightly limited, but can easily be turned up...also you can adjust the volume of you're songs in iTunes- if you click "Get info" on a song, and then adjust the volume of it somewhere in those settings...hope that helps! I wouldn't downgrade if I were you, but I'm not and won't be so there ya have it, lol...I guess I crack myself up. :)
    • Get a free iPod Video from this site, just by signing up and completing a few simple online tasks. It really works!
    • Every single iPod should work with the latest iTunes.

As for the volume limit, be sure to check settings to see if the default volume limit is set. iPods come set with 80% max volume as the limit. (except for the iPod Touch and iPhone)

There is no way that you have maxed the volume limit in settings for your iPod classic and aren't satisfied. That thing will kill your ears.
    • it should ipod will sync with the program when you plug it in
